Conserving the amazing Caño
Negro Wildlife Refuge
Liga Ambiente was created as a private response to the threats
that are endangering the amazing Caño Negro Refuge.
Currently, this unique ecosystem is undergoing several threats
including lack of maintenance, not enough guards, not enough
money to control the entire area and farmers logging, hunting
and draining the surrounding areas or areas within the refuge,
which causes the ecosystem to start to disappear.
Liga Ambiente does not receive enough support
to fight back the environmental criminals, and WE NEED YOUR
HELP to pressure the ENVIRONMENTAL MINISTRY ( MINAE ) and
also to help spread the word.
Caño Negro
Location: It is located in the Guatusos
plains, in the Northern part of the province of Alajuela.
Importance: It protects one of the most important humid
areas in the territory, considered of international importance
as its serves as refuge for a large number of migratory
bird species, species at risk of extinction and commercially
important species.
