Roberta Felix Foundation
The Roberta Felix Foundation is an organization
that develops resources for disabled children in rural communities
of Costa Rica. Most of these special children have few options
in terms of getting the support they need. In addition to
our support of disabled children, we also develop and support
programs for children with learning disabilities and for
children who live in poverty.
The Roberta Felix Foundation also acts
as an advocate to bring legal, medical, and dental support
to the disabled children who live in the counties of Aguirre
and Parrita. Currently, we assist approximately 150 children
with diverse handicaps and their families. With limited
resources, we are able to improve the quality of life for
the disabled children in our community.
Established in 2001, The Roberta Felix
Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is
to improve the quality of life for handicapped children
in the rural Pacific coast counties of Aguirre and Parrita
in Costa Rica. We serve children from such towns as Parrita,
Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Naranjito, Villa Nueva, Londres,
and Matapalo.
The Roberta Felix Foundation is funded 100% by private donations
and has been able to accomplish in the following:
New construction of the Roger L. Evans
Development Center where physical, speech, and occupational
therapies are provided for handicapped children in Quepos.
Support for classrooms built for the handicapped
in area public schools.

How
to help ?
Donation of wheelchairs,
orthopedic shoes, clothing, food, toys, vitamins, diapers,
books, glasses, and other basic necessities for handicapped
children.
Offering activities,
workshops, and clinics for the handicapped.
Collecting and distribution
of materials for special education throughout the local
public school system.
Coordination of volunteers
from medical and educational professions to offset the cost
of hiring a full-time staff.
Basic services for
the handicapped are located in San Jose, Costa Rica, which
is a six to nine hour roundtrip bus ride. Because we operate
in a rural area where this type of care is non-existent,
we welcome children with all types of handicaps to make
use of the Foundation’s services. The children have
handicaps such as Cerebral Palsy and Down’s syndrome,
and public transportation is not equipped to handle their
needs. With ongoing projects and the completion of The Center,
The Roberta Felix Foundation is able to help these children
enjoy their childhood, and prepare them for life.
