La Marina
Nature Foundation

The Wildlife Rescue Center is a privately
funded Animal Rescue Center in Costa Rica. Animal
victims of repossession, loss of habitat and accidents...
from all corners of the country are brought in by
local officials. Many are able to be nersed back to
health and released back into their natural habitat.
Tapirs, spider monkeys, green macaws, scarlet macaws,
and a few different types of felines are just some
of the animals that are bred here.
Animal Rescue
The rescue program at the Wildlife Rescue Center La
Marina Foundation has saved many lives of wild animals
that for different reasons have either been a threat
to people, or people and their activities have been
a threat to them.
We here at Wildlife Rescue Center La Marina Foundation
also denounce activities that endanger our biodiversity
such as illegal deforestation, the extraction of plants
and animals, and the growth of projects that lack
proper control.
Breeding
Births have occurred by natural means on our compound
through the conditions with which many of the animals
rely on. This has helped the creation of the Breeding
Program, with the aim of returning to nature the offspring
of animals that were removed from their habitat. Tapirs
(Tapirus bairdii), spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi),
green macaws (Ara ambigua), scarlet macaws (Ara macao),
and a few different types of felines are just some
of the animals that are bred here.
Liberation
This program benefits the animals born in the Wildlife
Rescue Center that show innate characteristics necessary
for surviving in a natural environment. The candidates
enter a regorous program where they are taught how
to obtain food, guaranteeing their health and well-being.
Reintroduction
The Reintroduction Program applies to all of the animals
that enter the Wildlife Rescue Center because of repossession,
habitat destruction, hunting, or from being injured
in public and private areas. These animals are placed
in quarantine, rehabilitated, and if they fit the
necessary profile, are released into protected wild
areas.
Conservation
This program concentrates on the daily maintenance
of animals that have no hope of returning to their
natural habitat. The program has been improving the
conditions of the animals little by little, limited
by a tight budget. Many of the animals present secuelas
as a result of maltreatment or carelessness such as
mutilations, unstable behavior, and stress. Here,
they are given a lot of affection and the proper conditions
that will hopefully improve their lives.
Education
The animals in the Conservation Program
at Wildlife Rescue Center La Marina Foundation, lend
a great service, already having educated visitors
about natural history. They convincingly show us the
necessity of changing some human practices and lifestyles
that lead to unhealthy development. Their stories
are touching and make evident the horror that they
have been through which has removed them from their
habitat.
A small wooded patch of land transports
visitors to the grandiosity of forests that are in
the area. It is a sanctuary of plants and animals
that if used adequately, will exist forever.
