Center for Tropical Studies

The TSC is dedicated to the study of the relationship between
human society and the natural resources of the Tropics.
Since its establishment in 1962, prestigious scientists
and educators have built the TSC into one of the most distinguished
and influential research and environmental planning institutions
in Latin America.
The TSC has conducted research and consulting
work for national and international organizations, private
and public agencies, throughout Latin America, the United
States, Europe and tropical regions of Africa and Asia.
Organizations such as the World Bank, the FAO, the GTZ and
USAID have contracted its services and TSC work has influenced
environmental policy in at least 25 countries throughout
the World.
Research and consulting has covered such
diverse topics as: Anthropology, dendrology, demography,
ecology, agricultural and forestry certification, soils
conservation, environmental feasibility and impact studies,
environmental education, wildlife and natural resources
management, environmental economics, ecological tourism,
carbon fixation studies and climate change.
