CCC

Caribbean Conservation & Sea Turtle Survuval league

The Sea Turtle Survival League Sea Turtle Survival League

In 1993, CCC established the Sea Turtle Survival League (STSL) program to begin directly engaging in issues that affect U.S. nesting populations of sea turtles. Drawing on CCC’s four decades of international sea turtle conservation experience, STSL is improving the survival outlook for marine turtles in the United States, especially in Florida (which supports 90% of all the sea turtle nesting in continental U.S.), by (1) raising national awareness, (2) advocating for protection of sea turtles and their habitat, (3) empowering small, local sea turtle groups, and (4) providing an award winning online Sea Turtle Migration-Tracking Education Program.

Since its establishment, the STSL has emerged as a reliable source of information about sea turtle biology and conservation issues, and is a leader in the advocacy arena. Representatives from STSL regularly provide testimony to Congress, federal agencies and state officials on issues affecting sea turtles and their habitat. STSL closely monitors all issues related to the survival of sea turtles and informs conservationists, the media and STSL members about steps that should be taken to ensure sea turtle survival. When threats to sea turtles and their habitats are identified, the STSL addresses these issues by developing solution - oriented strategies. The STSL also generates greater levels of national awareness about marine turtles and their threats by distributing innovative educational programs and materials.
